Review of Girl on Fire

Updated: Jul 12

The novella Girl on Fire by Gemma Amor is exactly the kind of horror punk I've been looking for lately. This story is one big trigger warning, I feel I should acknowledge that before going any further, so tread carefully.

Ruby is celebrating life after finally escaping her abusive childhood home. After an accident leaves her with supernatural powers, she goes on a rampage, making the world feel all of the pain and anguish that she has been forced to feel her entire life. This is not a tale of redemption, this is a tale of hot, burning rage. Amor weaves in a Phoenix motif which will surely payoff in the story's upcoming sequel which I can't wait to read. I look forward to reading more from this author and hope to see more stories with the guts and fuck-it-all attitude of Girl on Fire.
